Puglia #4

One day the girls drove us south to Grottaglie which is a small town known for its ceramics. We visited a gallery where there were many ornate ceramics dating back to the 1400s as well as more recent ones depicting the nativity scenes.

We visited a friend of the girls, Domenico Pinto, who has his studio in a cave in the main street and he allowed me to take just one photo of him but not his "world famous" ceramics.

On our last day we drove to a nearby town of Locorotondo and walked amongst the old part of the city with its narrow streets and flower decorations. Most streets we have seen on our travels in Italy have been devoid of any flowers or greenery. Artifacts dug up recently prove that the Greeks were in this region from 700 BC onwards.

They also had a huge fruit and vegetable market on that day.

One day the girls organized for two local women  to come over to demonstrate cooking different Italian dishes but my attention span was quite short so a swim suited me better.

The pizza oven is heated using the baled up pruning from the grape vines.

It was sad to have to pack up from our very comfortable Trulli after a week of not having to worry about meals and what we were going to do for the day.

Bev made friends with a dog when we left.

Our last lunch in Puglia. We were so well fed during the week we were with Lyn and Chris. Local wine was plentiful each lunch and dinner.
