Siena #2

For 2 days we just walked around Siena and enjoyed the atmosphere of the city. Mark and Bev found a Michelin star restaurant and booked us in for a special treat.  It was walking distance from our house and the old world cave-like building and the food made for a memorial night.

The wine and cheese cellar.

Scenes around the Campo where the horse racing takes place

Siena in the late afternoon. Our Airbnb was right beside the cathedral on the hill.

On Friday the 15th we packed up and caught the train to Florence where we said our goodbyes to Pam who headed off to Rome for a few days.
Mark and Bev, and Pen and I caught 2 more trains for a 5 hour trip down the East coast to Bari .  There were lots of umbrellas and deck chairs along the beaches waiting for the crowds in the heat of the summer.
We have been very lucky with the weather so far as it has been pleasantly warm but not hot.
We found our hotels in Bari and met up with our friend Shirley from Akaroa where we found a pizza joint.

Next day we wandered around the centre of the city which had a tropical feel about it. The main street had palm trees and the sea was really blue.

There was a military wedding on at the basilica where the men were in full uniform and the women looked very chic as most Italian women do.

It is the Saint Nicholas church and each Christmas the statue of him is paraded around the city.
