Devon & Somerset

We really enjoyed Cornwall with its quaint little seaside fishing villages, narrow streets and quiet country lanes. It was time to make our way up towards London so we set off up the motorway bypassing cities like Plymouth and Exeter. We stopped briefly at Newton Abbot to visit Stewart who is a brother of our friend Kathrine back in Akaroa. We stayed a night in a tiny village of Martock where all the buildings were made of the local yellow stone .

The next day we visited the Fleet Air Arms museum at Yeovil. It had a huge collection of planes and helicopters as well as one of the 20 Concords that they built.

Corsair like the ones that Pen's father flew in the Pacific.

This Concord first flew in 1969 and was one of the 6 experimental planes hence all the electronic gear aboard. Very narrow and not much headroom.

We stumbled upon this beautiful setting when we needed some lunch and pulled off the motorway.

This is another place we stopped at right beside a motorway. It was built in the 1400s and the ceilings were too low for me.

We drove past Stonehenge on our way to our next bnb just south of London. We had a wonderful meal and get together with cousin David and his wife Nicky who are looking after two dogs at a beautiful home in the woods.

Our bnb south of London was in the middle of a 600 acre vineyard near Cobham. It is said to be the largest in the UK.
